How to Revamp Your Bedroom on a Budget

We often spend a lot of time in our bedrooms, which over time can create a few bad habits. From lying in bed eating snacks with the kids to creating a laundry mountain in the corner of the room!

Your bedroom should be a welcoming sanctuary where you can exhale before and after a hectic day, so it is time to say bye-bye to old habits and hello to new ones.

Creating a zestful yet composed atmosphere doesn’t have to come at such a high cost either. Below are a few ways you can redesign your room on a budget to create a space that doesn’t put you to sleep:

1.   Try A New Colour Palette

Whether you want to upcycle your bedside table, spray paint your vanity stool or switch out your wardrobe handles, updating the colour palette and finishes in your bedroom can create such a warm feeling every time you enter.

Purchasing new bedding along with complementing coloured throws and cushions is one of the most impactful ways you can transform your room into a hotel-like space without having to break the bank.

TOP TIP: Accent pillows are a striking way of breathing new life into your room, they not only add a new dimension and volume to your room but are available in a variety of patterns, colours and textures.

2.   Adjust Your Form

Sometimes repositioning your bed just doesn’t make the impact you want it to, so it may be time to rethink your form - out with the old, in with the new.

Play around with the geometrical directions of your room. Test out hanging a plant from your ceiling in a hanging basket instead of placing it on a horizontal dresser. Switch your vertical blinds to horizontal ones, so that they can open up the room and allow more light. Or even mix-and-match vertical and horizontal shelving to give your room some additional layers.

TOP TIP: A vertical or horizontal panelled headboard can make a huge difference to your room, not only do they generate a focal point of your room, but they are also very budget-friendly. Select a headboard or bed frame that has a robust structure, such as metal or wood, as they are known to stand the test of time.

3.   Experiment with Textures

To create a snug abode, your bedroom makeover should include a combination of textures. Why not mix some of your favourite metals with crushed velvet, combine quilted fabrics with a shaggy blanket or blend rustic wood with rattan furniture.

If you’re feeling crafty, take it a step further and be even more budget-friendly by purchasing your own materials and knitting your own unique rug, cushion covers and throws.

REMEMBER: As the weather transitions, consider how cosy you want your room to be. Cotton textures are practical in the Summer as they help keep you cool, whilst fluffier textures add an extra layer of warmth during colder months.

4.   Express Your Personality

Do you have an award or a certificate you’re proud of? A favourite landmark or phrase you cannot get enough of? Why not display it and remind yourself daily.

Incorporating elements of your achievements, hobbies and interests is a great way to revamp your bedroom in addition to adding a speck of your style and personality. From scents to signs, this is an ideal opportunity to explore your creativity and truly make your room your own.

TOP TIP: Artwork is a faultless way of adding a personal touch to your space. You could go the maximalist route and hang your favourite photographs to create a gallery wall or go the minimalist way and place a few of your favourite prints in freestanding frames.

5.   Statement Lighting

Have you noticed how lighting completely changes the mood? From cool-toned to natural daylight. There is an assortment of ways you can uplift or tone down the lighting in your bedroom.

To save yourself some money, changeover the outdated shades from your ceiling, bedside, wall and desk lamps, to a shade more striking and contemporary for a modern luxe look.

TOP TIP: Why have a standard light bulb when colour changing LED bulbs are on the market? You can switch between brilliant white and lime green with the click of a button - great fun for everyone and perfect for letting your personality and mood reflect around the room.
